Biography
I was born in Waukegan, Illinois, north of Chicago, and began to draw as soon as I could hold a crayon. When my parents discovered I might have talent, my mother took me by train each Saturday to the Art Institute of Chicago for lessons. In high school I won a prize for a poster I created for a Humane Society contest.

My father had a very nice drugstore to be inherited but no boys so I agreed to go to pharmacy school at the University of Wisconsin. For my elective credits I took art classes with some very fine instructors including John Wilde.

I married before I finished pharmacy school, but later enrolled in the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee where I finished with an English major, an Art minor and a Science minor plus teacher’s certification.

I have taught Art, Biology, English, Communication Skills for Nurses and English for Speakers of Other Languages.

From this diverse background I developed my passion for art as well as science. The science aspect has primarily focused on the animal kingdom with forays into the study of evolution. I go to the zoos and animal rescue facilities to draw and have had the opportunity for extensive travel where I photograph and draw the more unusual animals. I also study the human body so I draw and paint from live models as often as possible.

I primarily focus on entering regional and national exhibitions with a portion of the prize money and sales going to The World Wildlife Fund and Heifer Society as well as local animal rescue facilities.
